A Short Brief About Subala Maharana:

Subala Maharana is an international Sand artist is born in India in an ordinary family of Late Ladu Kishore Maharana and Sita Devi, His small family consisting of wife and two sons, who are also equally good in art. He has visited many places inspiring young artists and has successfully formed teams, attracting attention of lovers of sand art. The artist in order to promote the art visits distant places at his own cost to make other joyful with the art. He has been awarded various prizes and being honoured by prominent personalities for his dedication to the cause of art and creating inspiration for posterity.
Lord Jagannath has been kind to him and has showered his blessings for all his efforts and he has not looked back. With inspiration and cooperation of family members, friends, colleagues, he is determined to further the cause of sand art in the years to come. Not with standing his weak health, his deft hands giving extraordinary shape to sand. He says, “When people pat my back in appreciation, all my pains simply vanish and that is what keeps me going." Amateur Sand artist, Subala Maharana, with sincere devotion to the art, keeps in his uninterrupted effort to exhibit various alertness programmes concerning various incidents/social issues with medium of sand among the students and people in different places of Odisha and outside the state and country. Aptly called "the friend of sand”. He had his early inspiration in childhood; heaps of sand fired his imagination for creating Sand art. The applicant is an amateur sand artist of Odisha who has participated in many national and international level sand art exhibition and lauded for his effort by one and all. He has created a niche for himself in the field of sand art by creating awareness notably in the fields of Medical Aid, Blood Donation, Assistance to Old Age Homes and patronising Orphans and Destitute Children. His tireless efforts exhibit various facets concerning incidents/social issues through the medium of sand art among the students and the general public in different parts of the state as well as India which have earned him many accolades. His messages include fields like Plantation, Swachh Bharat, Aid to the people suffering from malnutrition etc.

Achievements

He has been awarded by different personalities of eminence for his achievements. Among many such awards, the notable ones are: -
(A) Governors of Odisha, Rajasthan and Goa.
(B) Participated in the sand art festival organised at Maldives.
(C) His name is registered in the India Book of Record published by Rotary Club for a giant eye created in sand.
(D) He is also engaged in training to interested students in sand art to spread this innovative culture throughout India and abroad.
(E) He has been awarded and honoured for his spectacular achievements in sand art by Odisha Tourism in Bhubaneswar Book fair (7 times).
(F) He is award winner in Konark International Sand Art Festival, Chandrabhaga in 2011 to 2014,2016 and 2017.Participants from other countries like UK, USA, Japan, Ghana, Spain, Germany, Canada, Russia and Thailand also took part in this international festival.
(G) He is award winner in Berhampur Pragati Mahotsav, Kumuda Mahotsav of Titlagarh.
(H) He is awarded Mondei Samman at Mondei Utsav a district level function arranged by Department of Culture, at Nabarangpur, Odisha. (I) He is award winner Burla Mahotsav.
(I) He is 3 times award winner at Gopalpur Beach Festival.
(J) He is Award winner at Puri Beach Festival.
(K) Utkal Gourav samman awarded by Industrial Development Corporation of Odisha, Bhubaneswar.
(L) Honoured at International Craft Festival, Toshali mela, Bhubaneswar.
(M) Honoured by The Honourable Governor of Odisha, Sri Rameswar Thakur, at the Foundation Day Ceremony of Berhampur University.
