About -
For Mumbai based Falak, cubing has always been more than a hobby. At the age of 6, when she completed solving a cube and demonstrated to her family, it was nearly impossible for her to put it down. It is that time when her parents realized the need to pursue this hobby and convert it into a passion.
Falak has won many accolades and several awards and achievements for solving Rubik cubes at fastest possible speed and also for creating mosaic portraits using Rubik cubes. She had participated in various competitions conducted by the world cubing association all over India Some of her key achievements are
“1st Position“
At Cubing Challenge 2020 – 200+ participants; 00:36.88 seconds. (8 Aug’20)
“Upcoming Star Cuber”
At Cube Pluss Winter Open 2020 –400+ participants. 00:29:53 seconds. (21st Dec’20)
Her passion and talent has also helped her bag awards by “International book of records”;
Falak recently participated in an online cubing event, organised by the Speed Cubing Bengaluru and Prithvi's Mosaic, with about 250 participants. This competition has managed to land its name in the Asia book of records and India book of records, which makes us very proud and Falak elated with joy.
Falak says "I always wanted to do mosaic, but it was actually in 2020 when I bought a bunch of 3D Rubik cubes from my mentors- Cube Pluss, so that I can create a 2D mosaic of any image. When I perfected my skills with small artworks, I tried making the first portrait of Lord Mahavira. (The 24th Tirthankara of Jainism). It was very humbling to see my family joy when the portrait was ready.” She believes that it is the blessings of the Lord Mahavira that helps her attaining the patience to tirelessly work for 10-12 hours to create the Rubik portraits. Other portraits she created were the Logo of her school and a Childhood portrait of herself. (113cm X 140cm). Her recent work was a two-dimensional mosaic portrait of her own self which she worked on.
The layout of the design was created on the floor. It took falak about 10 to 12 hours to perfect the artwork that was about 113cm X 140cm in size. Falak mixes up Rubik’s to bring out the best possible details, to make it look like a replica of the image in hand.
For Falak, her biggest achievement is creating a 2D Rubik's Mosaic picture by connecting 500 Rubik cubes. It was the Rubik cube that helped her pass the dreaded Lockdown 2020. During this time when all of us were getting restless locked in the home, she chose the Rubik cube to channelize her time and energy. She believes that it is the Cube and her passion for Mosaic art that helped her stay sane during these hard times.
Falak says, “I have always been an artist, more inclined towards art, 2020 was an eye-opener, it gave me the time and opportunity to integrate my art and Rubik and together we made Rubik art. My genuine role model is Mats Valk, the unprecedented fastest cuber, whom I have met once in my life at Mumbai-World Cube Association. I want to meet him again as he is the speediest Rubik solver. I inspire to be like him and someday, break his record of the Fastest Rubik Solver. My father Maulik Sheth is the one who has been a guiding light and my true role model, in channelling my energies in its right direction.
My “Mother – Poonam Sheth” is my constant follow-up guide.....”
At the outset, Falak would like to express her gratitude to her parents, family, teachers, Principal, and her sister – Palash Sheth for being a great support and always motivating her to pursue her passion. To upcoming cubers she wants to say, “Never underestimates the power of practice”. Finally, to her fellow cubers she wants to say “GAME ON FELLAS, Let the fastest Girl Win”
