Honorary Doctorate Award is presented to Dr. Hemraj Viram Shah from Maharashtra state for his outstanding contributions in the field of Social Anthropologist. He has lifetime achievement of contributing for the well being of the society by working on peace, harmony, human rights, humanity & social services. It has been recorded in Magic Book of Record.
Help to the poor and needy has been his motto and he has also been devoting himself to serve the cross sections of the society. The associations with which Shri Shah is involved have, after considering the merit of his work, honored him by appointmentsto various posts like Vice President Vishwa Gujarati Samaj, President Maharashtra Gujarati Samaj, President Kutch –Shakti , President and Trustee Bruhad Mumbai Gujarati Samaj, President Umarganm Gaushala etc.
The Government of Maharashtra appointed him as Executive Chairman of Maharashtra Rajya Gujarati Sahitya Academy, 2000 to 2014 and by giving ‘State Guest’ Status. He worked for Gujarati language promotion.
Considering his achievements in the social and cultural field, the government of Maharashtra entrusted him several responsibilities. He has worked as a Trustee of Shri Saibaba Sansthan-Shirdi. He was a vice chairman of the Housing Board (Repair and Reconstruction, Slum Improvement 1992-1995), Member of the Vigilance Committee-Ration shops zone 3-A (Govt. of Maharashtra).
Central Government appointed him a member of the Film Censor Board (1992 to 1994).
Working as a press correspondent, he has been regularly contributing to Gujarati Newspapers ‘Mumbai Samachar’ in Mumbai (Oldest News Papers of Asia) and Gujarat Samachar, London (UK) and Janmbhoomi Daily. He also edits a Magazine ‘Kutch-shakti’. He has written books on Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Badshah Khan, Shri Dulerai karani, etc. He has written 15 Books and edited 25 Books. Total 44 Books to his credit.
Shri Hemraj Shah is the President of the Book Manufactures Associating, Mumbai since last 20 years. He has been helping a number of poor and needy students by distributing Exercise Books every year.
His laudable work is construction of ‘Gujarati Samaj Bhavan’ in Mumbai. Bruhad Mumbai Gujarati Samaj, a charitable registered Trust, has been allotted 930 sq. mtrs. Plot by the Housing Department, Government of Maharashtra at Oshiwara- Andheri, Mumbai. Ground plus eight stories Gujarat Bhavan has been built on this plot. It has about 37000 sq. ft built up area. 139 Gujarati Gyati (caste) Samaj are connected with Mr. Hemraj Shah.
He is working for the upliftment of the Maharashtrian and Gujarati people of the State.
He started celebration of the Vishwa Gujarati Bhasha Divas on 24th August (Birthday of Poet Narmad). It is now celebrated all over the World every year.
Through the Kutch –Bharati and Kutch Shakti Trust and Bruhad Mumbai Gujarati Samaj , Shri. Shah honors Social workers, Educationists, authors, etc. every year. He has been active in providing much needed relief to the famine affected people of Kutch.
Hemraj Shah has distinguished himself in the fields of social work, journalism, and Gujarati language and literature. A selfless worker, he is ever ready to help people in distress, or even in resolving their day to day problems. A man of Public Affairs, and not a politician in the strict terms, he is full of ideas and works tirelessly to fulfil those ideas. He is a man of institutions, but always makes it sure that institutions serve their purpose and work without fear or favor. He has held quite a few high posts, but has never lost his touch with and concern for the common man.
He is a living example of what a person coming from humble background can not only aim for, but can achieve as well, with grit, determination, honesty, and hard work. A role model for the younger generation. Padma Shri Award to him will be honor and inspiration for those who aspire to work for the upliftment and enrichment of the people of Maharashtra in particular and the country in general.
