Hira Kashiramji Deshmukh was born in a small town Karanja, Maharashtra. She was born in a family of six children in a not to very well to do agricultural based family. She was affected by polio when she was 2 years old and her right leg was severely impacted. Polio was a progressive disease in her case as she grew old; her right leg started troubling me more. She could no longer walk without supporting my right leg with my right hand. Slowly, walking without calipers also became near impossible and hence she had to be supported by calipers in her right leg for the rest of my life. She had a strong desire to excel in studies and carve a niche for herself. Her family members supported my studies by putting me in a hostel from early age in nearest city-Nagpur. She went on to pursue BA, LLB and finally LLM.
